Dear English Teacher, We are very pleased to be able to inform you about our new software program 'passFIRST'. The program is aimed primarily at students wishing to take the Cambridge First Certificate Examination, but it can also be used very efficiently in all classes at upper-intermediate level, and even below and above. Experienced Teachers, Professional Programmers, Award-Winning Designers The program has been developed by a team of highly qualified exam teachers working with a team of professional programmers and analysts. The package has been designed by a renowned design company which has won numerous international prizes in the field of user-interface design. All of this is a guarantee of excellent quality in all aspects of the program. For Class or Home Use The program can be used in class with the teacher or for private study by the student at home or whilst travelling with a laptop computer. Over 500 Exercises The program contains well over 500 exercises at upper-intermediate level. Activities include grammar exercises, vocabulary, reading, listening and writing. It provides students with literally hundreds of hours of practice in a lively, interesting and modern way. Exam Mode Students can take 5 'mock exams' under exam conditions, i.e. none of the help functions are available and actual time limits are set and cannot be exceeded! When he or she has finished, the student's answers are marked and percentages and grades are given. 5,000 Word Dictionary On board is also a dictionary containing over 5,000 words. With a mouse click, these words can be heard. Each word is defined clearly and an example sentence shows how it is used in context. Students can also opt to see a translation of the word in German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Greek (with more downloadable languages to come!), or they can select the monolingual version. Students can test themselves on any area of vocabulary, they can even print out their own personalised set of small learning cards to use on the train on the way to school or work! Everything Included Containing full grammar explanations, vocabulary explanations and descriptions as well as help functions throughout the entire program, the program is a comprehensive and effective combination of a grammar book, a vocabulary trainer, vocabulary learning cards, an exercise book, a dictionary, audio CD's and more, all on one CD! passFIRST and You passFIRST can be used extremely effectively in a classroom situation. With a standard-size class, the program can be used with a beamer, with one-to-one classes, the exercises can be done directly on your PC or notebook. Teachers can use the passFIRST Help Files to introduce and explain a grammar point or a vocabulary topic. Grammar, vocabulary and listening exercises and drills are all carried out very effectively and in a lively way, with instant feedback. Our own teachers sometimes close a lesson with one or two of the activities from the Puzzles and Games section, and often end up doing overtime, as their students don't wish to stop! passFIRST and Your Students When used at home, our program offers your students the ideal way to revise and reinforce what you have dealt with in class. It provides a wealth of practice and training and gives them additional confidence for the exam. Our own teachers often refer to specific exercises or areas in the program to be done as homework Not Only for FCE The program is also highly effective and useful for students not wishing to take the exam; the entire contents of the program can be used with any upper-intermediate class or student. Our teachers have also used various parts of the program with intermediate and advanced students. Lots of Fun All of the activities have been designed to be fun, lively and motivating. As mentioned above, we have included a special section entitled 'Puzzles and Games' in which students can do numerous word games, quizzes and puzzles, - an excellent way to end a lesson.
